      Assistant Women's Water Polo Coach

As a coach, I was responsible for attending and running daily practices and weekend tournaments. My job was to encourage and foster growth and improvement by tactfully assessing player ability. I helped to promote group inclusion and team building. I assisted in organizing games, fundraisers, team functions, and encouraging parent involvement.I used hard data to assist in making decisions for games as well as practice. I, along with the head coach, had various charts displayed to help hold players accountable. I created an attendance chart where everyday players marked their attendance, which pressured players to commit to practice--something that can sometimes be an issue in a no-cut sport. After every game I posted the game statistics as well as the overall statistics; this allowed both the players and me to reflect and discuss what needed to be worked on to improve for the next game. The head coach and I also conducted one on one meetings with players to ensure that they a) knew we cared about bettering each and every one of them, not just the "stars" b) to create high expectations for every player c) to let players know what they needed to individually focus on even when we were conducting whole team drills/scrimmages. Finally, the head coach and I also conducted/organized/encouraged team bonding events. Team bonding is something that needs to be highly encouraged in a competitive team sport-- both for the benefit of the team while competing and for the team's overall mental health. Competing for a spot on the team can be draining, and I wanted every player to enjoy the sport even if they did not get a second of playing time. Team bonding creates a camaraderie that improves the in-pool connection and creates a social network that supports players throughout high school and beyond. Show less

      Jul 2016 - May 2017
Student Assistant- Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Department

In this position, I helped to promote the program through social media and on campus events; I assisted in program reviews to revamp the program; I fulfilled other varied tasks in relation to the GSW department (such as preparing displays, reaching out to community members, and collecting and delivering evaluations). This job was incredibly beneficial to teaching as it allowed me to be in constant discussion about how to help those that are underserved and/or ostracized by the larger community. Being aware of what issues female and LGBTQIA students are facing is the first step in making the school environment and society a more welcoming place for all students to succeed. Show less
