  Laboratory assistant

  I completed a summer-long internship before my senior year of high school within the Translational Neuroscience Department at Duke University. The lab I volunteered at conducted a variety of studies to develop treatments for illnesses such as epilepsy, depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. I was placed in charge of organizing and conducting experiments on mice to test the curative qualities of LSD against depression and anxiety.

Additionally, I managed social media accounts by crafting and managing content.

  I am helping to address the impacts of the labor and delivery department closure that serves Yancey, Mitchell, and Avery County. Contributing to the development of a perinatal health micro-learning curriculum and spearheading the creation of a website to enhance accessibility for mothers. Additionally, authored a case study, pending publication, focusing on grassroots and coalition efforts in response to L&D department closures, including conducting interviews and preparing materials for a CDC webinar.   Research fellow

  As a research fellow for AmeriCorps, I delivered pre and post-emergency/trauma Psychological First Aid (PFA) interventions to a diverse range of communities, organizations, and professionals. In my capacity, I took on the responsibility of conducting outreach efforts to increase awareness of PFA, forging connections with potential organizations interested in our training. As an interprofessional team member, I also helped develop various professional development initiatives and team bonding activities aimed at fostering a supportive and cohesive environment for our members.   Studied how the profession of truck driving perpetuates lower quality of life and reduced life expectancy by mapping truck driver resources using Excel across the United States and Canada. I successfully conducted a research project investigating the relationship between identifying as a sexual minority and vulnerability to experiencing sexual violence. Utilizing SPSS, I examined quantitative survey data to discern any significant associations. After obtaining a grant, focus groups were facilitated to gather qualitative data. The data collected from these discussions was then subjected to thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns, which underpin my thesis.

  As a research fellow for the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina, I conducted an analysis of the amnesty policy at App State utilizing the POLARIS framework. I then advocated for the expansion of the amnesty policy to better meet the needs of students and prevent drunk driving.
