This project is funded by Aker B.P which started as an undergraduate project and turned into a Masters thesis. Formations within the Pismo Basin, Central California, respond to tectonic stress differently and as a result, developed deformation in unique styles and orientations. Many of these structural features act as baffles or conduits and have implications to the migration and production of hydrocarbons. My focus is to determine the relative timings of these structures, the stress regime they were formed in, and their influence on the migration and trapping of hydrocarbons in reservoir rocks. I'm addressing these questions by conducting a thorough and detailed study of outcrop-scale deformation bands, faults, folds, fractures, and injectites. I'm also conducting a qualitative and quantitative study on sealing deformation bands to document microscale features that may contribute to overall sealing potential. Show less

      Imperial barrel awards program 2020

AAPG's Imperial Barrel Award Program (IBA) is an annual prospective basin evaluation competition for geoscience graduate students from universities around the world. In this global competition, university teams analyze a dataset (geology, geophysics, land, production infrastructure, and other relevant materials) in the eight weeks prior to their local competition. Each team delivers their results in a 25-minute presentation to a panel of industry experts. CSULB won the Pacific Section and went on to become a semifinalist in the Global Competition. Show less
