  As a youth mentor I helped to empower at risk youth in my community to make positive life choices, and to encourage them to live up to their full potential. I committed to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a group of young girls in my community for 6 years. I stopped so that I could finish my academic goals to be a better me and mentor.As a mentor I assisted mentees to develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.I communicated with youth openly and without judgment, to establish a relationship based on shared responsibility and respect.I was sensitive to persons of different educational, economic, cultural and racial backgrounds. My Mentor Role• Take the lead in supporting youth through an ongoing one-to-one or group relationship.   I worked in admissions, registration, records and credentials office (ARRC) Where I was the lead in Web admissions and trained others in the process and procedures of downloading an application to North Seattle College. I also answered calls to students who had questions about their student records and other various questions. I also interfaced with them one on one to help them with their academic questions, everything from adding/dropping their classes to processing their evaluations of in-coming credits. I also worked in the Testing Office, where I would help students through the testing process and also proctor while students took their tests. I also worked in the Advising Office, where I helped set up appointments for students to see an academic advisor. I was also in charge of New student orientation, where I put together new student academic programs and student success materials in a presentation folder and was one of the speakers for the orientation and the tour guide for the program. I was the team lead for a program called C.O.R.E which stands for Campus, Outreach, Retention, and enrollment. As the C.O.R.E lead I took responsibility for training other CORE Team members. I coordinated tours and was also a tour guide. I was responsible for outreach events where we would set up a booth and reach out to our community through high school career day events, street fairs and campus outreach days. I also participated in a student panel board where I would openly speak to new potential students about what college life is like, what they should expect and tips on getting through college successfully.
