      Sept 2009 - Jun 2010
      Volunteer

Throughout Upper Sixth I was involved with Bury Hospice through working in the local charity shop. My roles included stocking shelves, pricing and creating window displays. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to further develop my interpersonal skills by working with a variety of ages and backgrounds of both the staff and customers.

    • Marketecture

      Dec 2009 - Apr 2010
      Assistant

Marketecture, a b2b marketing agency, was the first opportunity for me to put the theory of business into practice. Following my initial school work experience week, I was very pleased to be invited back to work during the holidays. During my time with Marketecture I engaged with several roles, including working at reception and being the first telephone contact for the company. I was also involved in working on various projects and presentations to gain new business. Through working within this business I have developed my skills of problem solving, creating ideas and working to time limits. I have developed problem solving skills, my ability to think creatively and my aptitude for adhering to deadlines. I immensely enjoyed working in this thriving business environment. Show less

    • Champions life academy

      Jul 2011 - Sept 2011
      Salesperson

Champions Life Academy is an undergraduate sales training internship which provides the opportunity for practical sales experience using door-to-door fundraising. Through attending an initial four day intensive training programme and by thorough in-field training throughout the Summer, I have been equipped with a range of excellent key skills. Due to the emphasis on face-to-face interaction, the Programme gave me the opportunity to enhance my communication skills and also learn how to tailor my sales technique in accordance with the various target audiences. Another key ability is that of self-motivation, as I was personally responsible for reaching sales targets whilst maintaining a sense of professionalism. This meant dealing with rejection and persevering throughout even in extremely challenging working circumstances. Over the internship I constantly improved my sales results, ensuring an upward learning curve. This led to my receiving a bonus of 25% of my salary as well as a significant number of awards at the company ceremony. Show less

      Dec 2011 - Oct 2012
      Equality, welfare & diversity officer

This was an elected position which formed part of my college JCR. This is the committee which handles the day to day running of the entire college. As well as helping within the college generally, this role specifically involved my looking after a student population of around 2500, and helping them with any problems they may have had. This gave me great pastoral experience, and also gave me experience in organising and planning large scale events.

    • Bskyb

      Aug 2012 - Jul 2013
      Marketing assistant

As part of my degree I undertook a year’s undergraduate placement at Sky. I worked within the brand marketing side of the Emerging Products team, specifically working on Sky Go and the other apps. My main responsibilities included managing the day to day relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure integration with brand creative, as well as working closely with our advertising agencies to ensure an efficient and accurate flow of creative. Whilst working here, I was involved in the launch campaign of the new product extension Sky Go Extra, which gave me exposure across many routes to market including TV, print, digital, outdoor, social and experiential. Throughout the campaign I had to liase with marketing legal as well as brand finance to ensure all regulations were adhered to and that all costs were in line with budgeted expectations. This role therefore provided me with many new skills as well as providing me with deep insight into the marketing processes which occur in a large organisation. Show less
