    • Neighbourlytics

      May 2022 - Mar 2024
      Data science engineer

Neighbourlytics is an urban life analytics platform which harnesses data from a wide variety of sources to help users such as local councils and property developers understand how people move and live within a neighbourhood. My responsibilities as a Data Science Engineer included: • Writing complex ETL and ELT pipelines using Python that automated the process of transforming our regularly updated raw big data into more usable formats. These pipelines were used and updated regularly, so the code written for them was highly maintainable and flexible to accommodate for changing product requirements. • Using Big Data Warehouses such as BigQuery and languages including SQL to optimise the queries of large geospatial datasets. Advanced SQL techniques were used to ensure that our raw geospatial data was cheaply read and transformed into actionable insights for how people interact with their neighbourhoods. • Engaging directly with our Product Designer and CEO to translate customer needs into meaningful metrics and visualisations that could be instantly understood by people with a non-technical background. • Creating and maintaining relational database structures in PostgreSQL that maintained data integrity and ensured that data could easily be retrieved when we needed to use it for metrics, visualisations and ad-hoc analysis • Creating a QA Framework for multiple data sources to quickly clean and validate data. This framework also helped identify serious data anomalies and assessed the impact on our metrics, so we could quickly reach out to our external data providers if needed.• Implementing Machine Learning Techniques such as K-means clustering to understand the ways in which cohorts of people behave in geographic areas.
