      Program manager: environmental programs

Position: Environmental program manager Development of agricultural extension program for the introducing of Biochar as an organic soil amendments for agricultural communities in Northern ThailandThe program encompasses a comprehensive integrated initial trails through to ‘in field’ implementation. Initially instigated as a system to mitigate the annual ‘haze’ which pollutes the northern regions of Thailand by encouraging rural farmers to pyrolize their field waste biomass instead of burning. Then utilizing the biochar generated in as agricultural amendment (using as a substrate for organic fertilizer and soil amendment) Principle aims of program:• Reduction of annual ‘haze’ by conversion of waste biomass to biochar• Using biochar to use as an agricultural soil amendments, increasing agricultural yields and reducing farmers cost of synthetic fertilizer.• Greenhouse Gas Reduction Biochar Upstream: Design build and trial of field appropriate portable pyrolysis units for charring ‘in field’ waste biomass. Development of ‘in field’ pyrolysis process to optimize the process parameters.• Higher gravimetric yield• Maximize adsorbency• Portability size/weight • Reduce labor input hour/ton• Cost (low maintenance)• Durability/Usability Development of biochar evaluation and testing systems appropriate with local conditions. Development of field appropriate biochar based fertilizers and soil amendmentsBiochar Downstream: Design, development of Experimental Farm plan and implementationExperimental farm a 0.8 ha terraced rice farm 15 Km south of Warm heart Campus consisting of 33 experimental plots to test 10 different treatments and a control.Five years experiment.
