      This was an intership during the summer while still enrolled at MSU. Hensel Phelps was and probably still is enganged in massive renovations, and an addition, at the Pentagon. I assited the Project Engineers and Superintendant in several ways including coordination of contractors, developing as-built drawings, survey work. I walked through the Pentagon a couple of times a day, luckily returned home to begin classes at MSU a couple of weeks before 9-11.

      As a project engineer with a Frank Rewold and Son, Inc., a construction management company I have been involved with many projects that range from a 20 million dollar addition to the Palace of Auburn Hills to small renovations of around 100 thousand dollars. I typically balance my work load between as many as 4 or 5 different projects at once while working alongside our vice presidents, estimators, marketing team, accountants and project superintendents to achieve success, beginning with meeting the owner and their representatives through project completion and final payment. My responsibilities included coordination between the owner, architect, city and state authorities, and various members of our company. I have assisted with leading and managing as many as 30 different contractors on multiple projects including activities such as running meetings, scheduling, procurement of materials and systems, writing scopes of work and verifying contracts, keeping track of project logistics, all paperwork and communication needed to achieve project success.       As the facilities planner I worked with and coordinated several university constituencies and an outside design team to develop the latest master plan. My duties included develop, coordinate, and implement planning and space management to support all planning activities for the university. This included the 2021 Campus Master Plan Update and area development plans for Academics, Administration, Athletics, and Student Affairs. I was in the process of helping CMU transition to a more robust GIS system to support project development, planning, and comprehensive facility space management. I wrote related policy documents to support the planning work Facilities Management was trying to perform. As a project manager I worked with many different groups across campus to manage 102 projects in 25 separate buildings over the course of seven years and I performed more than 150 feasibilities which included creating the scope of work for the project and an estimate of cost. My projects ranged in scale from over one million with approval from the Board of Trustees, to a few thousand with approval from individual departments. This includes renovations to many different academic and athletic spaces, cabinet level office renovations, and deferred maintenance work. I provided all project oversight and control of the scope, schedule, and budget for the university. Provided contact administration for the entire project. I was responsible for timely approvals, decisions, and issue resolution. Provided oversight and review of technical and contract documents prepared by architectural and engineering firms, and consultants. I Promoted excellent teamwork and communication with all team members. Reviewed and analyzed existing facilities and infrastructure and recommend corrective measures to maintain their continued use and prevent deterioration. I worked with state personnel, agencies, and inspectors to assure compliance of projects with applicable codes and standards. Show less
