In detail my research involves the use of computational chemistry and computer modeling in the design of artificial receptors for sugars, neurotransmitters, and other biological compounds and ions. Compounds were designed using computer-based methods which are synthesized and studied as receptors for the targeted biological compounds and ions in solution. With the incorporation of fluorescent signaling moieties into these receptors will lead to the development of fluorescent sensors of potential use in medical and environmental diagnostic applications.
