  Work Placement

  Through close interaction with both apprentices and skilled workers, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of both the role that a multinational bank like JP Morgan plays in the wider international economic system, as well as the specificities of back of house operations with a focus on Foreign Exchange trading. Me and my cohort of interns were placed in a variety of team building and managerial exercises, during which me and my team were awarded a prize for winning the most tasks.

  Through shadowing a barrister in the Legal Directorate, I was able to not only witness a trial at the Royal Courts of Justice, but more importantly watch the process of conflict resolution on the intersection between the international political stage and systems of international governance. The information that I gleaned about the actions of the British government regarding the island of Diego Garcia led me to present to a class about neocolonialism and the role of the British government in the displacement of the Chagossian people.   My time tutoring Key Stage One students (aged from 7-11) gave me the opportunity to realise the importance of the professional soft skills with what were in effect coworkers. By teaching content that they at times were not the most enthusiastic to learn, I had to foster a sense of teamwork towards a greater goal, which was them achieving higher grades. Through developing stronger interpersonal relationships with my tutees, learning about what motivated them outside the classroom setting and what they were passionate about learning about, I realised that removing the dissonance between what they enjoyed learning about and what they didn’t allowed them to see more menial tasks like memorisation as fun and create a sense of excitement to learn more content. This resulted in an improvement of at least one grade for all my tutees. Show less

  In this, my first experience being thrown in at the deep end professionally, I had to adapt to a unique skillset of which I had little prior understanding. While initially my performance left something to be desired, it became my goal to consistently have perfect services. To do so, I focused each shift on improving my spatial awareness, attention to detail, creation of a sense of familiarity with the customer, anticipation and urgency. Over the months I worked there, I saw strong improvement in all of these categories, and realised that process of incremental improvement not only was massively gratifying, but built merit and trust between both myself and my managers as well as customers.   This role emphasised co-ordination and communication in positions both in the Main Library at the University of Warwick and the Postgraduate Hub in order to provide a high-quality study environment at the peak of exam season. By taking up shifts both in the Main Library, in which I had to co-ordinate with a team of six other workers, and individual duties in satellite study areas, I was able to improve both de-escalation skills through responding to complaints about errant activity and communication with the Main Library and teammates.   Despite having little prior experience in risk management, I was able to secure a spot on a consulting project with the home of University of South Carolina baseball, Founder’s Field. In this four-month project, I was placed on a team of four tasked with distilling client interviews, on-site inspections and regulatory data into actionable strategic planning to mitigate risk. Through creating a risk assessment, a scenario-based planning exercise and a bespoke Continuity of Operations Plan, our resulting insights were presented in-person to our managing director and representatives from the Field, as well as Law Enforcement personnel. Our final 56-page document was praised by our managing director as ‘cogent, wide-reaching and thorough’. Show less

  Transitioning from the mindset of a consumer to that of an advertiser during my internship at Here and Now 365 was both a challenge and a revelation. With no prior marketing experience, I embraced the opportunity to contribute to campaigns for global brands like Tilda, Remitly, and Vatika. In my time at Here and Now 365, I was able to hone my resourcefulness through navigating brand activations with sub-£2500 budgets, in a challenging yet tight-knit environment that ignited a passion for understanding the links between consumer perceptions and brand ideation on a deeper level, as well as strategic growth development through multi-media advertising, which I look forward to applying to future endeavours.
