      Aug 2017 - Sept 2017
      Lead Mentor

I was leader of a team of 15 young people taking part in the national citizen service's 4 week summer programme. During these 4 weeks I was required to guide the young people through the 3 phase programme:Phase 1, adventure: I was required to build a rapport with the young people and ensure the team were motivated and bonded well.Phase 2, challenge: My main responsibility was to organise the team and keep to strict deadlines while keeping all members involved, as well as facilitating various activities to help them build life skills.Phase 3, social action: Organisation was again key to this phase as I had to guide my team through the planning and execution of a project that benefited their local community. Overall the experience heavily relied on my my communication and organisation skills, which were pushed by the nature of the young people. It also required me to adapt to constantly changing schedules whilst maintaining high team moral. Show less

    • Nestlé

      Jun 2018 - Sept 2018
      Quality Administrator

My primary responsibility was to lead the annual surveillance testing, working in the Third Party Quality team. This involved sending clear and concise requests for materials to suppliers (both within the UK and internationally) whilst communicating with other Nestle markets to coordinate the surveillance plan. I then sent these materials on to internal European laboratories and analysed the results to ensure they were compliant with Nestle standards. A project I was tasked with, was to propose improvements to the incident reporting system for Group Quality and I designed a branched logic infopath form connected to a Sharepoint library. This allows employees to fill in information specific to their situation, which will save them time and ensure incidents are reported consistently and fully. I have made suggestions to build on this work which includes incorporating workflows into the system. I was asked to participate in weekly and monthly operational reviews to present data and presentations were delivered both over Skype and in person. Time management was key during my placement, to ensure these tasks were completed on time. I took the opportunity to spend some time with Managers in Group SHE team to talk about their sustainability principles and current projects. I learnt a little about “Lean” principles and I gained a basic knowledge of SAP. I participated in Group Quality organised volunteering day on the North York Moors helping to support the local community.Overall the placement gave me a good insight into how Quality underpins a manufacturing organisation and how different functions work together within a large business. Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
      Sustainability Dissertation Placement

My Clean Technology MSc dissertation was an Energy reduction project with the Energy Team in the Estates department at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The purpose of this project was to understand how energy usage is distributed throughout the Dental Hospital in Newcastle, and create a prioritised list of recommendations for reducing consumption. This was achieved through analysis of monthly utility bills, audit walkarounds, and localised data collection (e.g. using 3-phase meters and Building Management System). Background, results and implications were presented in a final report, as well as in a poster presentation to peers and staff in the University Chemical Engineering Department. Results were discussed and agreed with the Hospital Energy Management Team. Show less
