The Centre for Innovative Human Systems brings together a critical multidisciplinary RTD capability in process innovation, development and application of new technologies, and managing risk and organisational change. It comprises a multidisciplinary capability including Psychology, Business and Organisation, Engineering and Computer Science, and Health Sciences. It offers knowledge and technology transfer through research, education and training, information technology development, consulting, evaluation. https://www.tcd.ie/cihs/My main role with the CIHS was working on the EU FP7 project "Advanced Cockpit for Reduction of StresS and Workload (ACROSS). The aim of this project is to develop pioneering solutions to reduce pilots' peak workload and stress, supporting them when dealing with difficult situations, thus enhancing safety and performance. The objectives are to develop solutions for (1) Peak Workload Situations; (2) Reduced Crew Operations (e.g. where crew become incapacitated); (3) Identify open issues for possible single-pilot operations.I also worked on a number of smaller projects which investigated;Road user behaviour in and around the Luas tram system in Dublin (2015-2016). Commissioned by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.Health and Safety Culture in Dublin Port (2016). Commissioned by the Dublin Port Company. Show less My PhD research comprised a large-scale longitudinal study which evaluated pre-driver education for adolescents in Irish secondary schools which was funded by the Irish Road Safety Authority. This study examined the driving-related knowledge, skills and attitudes of 15-17-year-old Irish Secondary school students, before and after they took a variety of pre-driver education courses. The study also investigated the potential influence of inherent factors (e.g. personality) and external factors (most notably exposure to aberrant driving practices) on knowledge, skills and attitudes. The findings from this study have been used for policy development and programme improvement. Show less
