Graduate Research Assistant @ The University of British Columbia | Certificates

  • Education

    • The University of British Columbia

      2022 - 2024
      M.A.Sc Mechanical Engineering
    • University of Alberta

      2018 - 2022
Bachelor of Science - BSc Petroleum Engineering
  • Experience

    • University of Alberta

      May 2021 - May 2022

      • Designed an SOP for two full-scale laboratories that involved meetings with safety coordinators. SOP involved detailed equipment operations, hazards, chemical handling, PPE and was approved by head safety officer.• Worked alongside Ph.D. student to conduct repairs to pumps, and piping for experimental application.• Created a detailed catalogue of experiments conducted as well as created a database of all devices and chemicals in the laboratory.• Led the development of a standard testing operation for small-scale bench testing, resulting in consistent results that can be interpreted to improve large-scale implementation. This allowed the Ph.D. student to implement and enhance fluid formulation for large-scale success.• Presented detailed weekly PowerPoint updates about the previous week and future work to the supervisor.• Presented end-of-summer work to university faculty and industry to promote funding for my supervisor’s research Show less

      • Dean's Research Award

        Sept 2021 - May 2022
      • NSERC Research Assistant

        May 2021 - Aug 2021
    • The University of British Columbia

      May 2022 - now

      • Constructed 2D and 3D CAD models of experimental apparatus using Solidworks and various open-source packages to compare CFD simulations to experiments.• Using Openfoam CFD, developed a model using C++ to compare experiments conducted in the summer of 2023.• Developed a script to automate simulations to run on government servers without the need for human oversight.• Automated post-processing of simulations with Python and C++ to save hundreds of hours of human processing.• Packaged software for future CFD users to access with ease.• Finalizing a paper to publish in the Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics.• Present simulation results in biweekly meetings to supervisor and co-workers. Show less • As an experimental leader, I hired an undergraduate student under the NSERC grant for four months. The student shadowed me and was taught how to conduct research, operate heavy equipment, conduct experiments, and review technical literature.• Utilizing a flow loop located at UBC, we conducted forty experiments to study the flow of non Newtonian withNewtonian fluids.• Led development of software to post-process experiments. This involved using Python for image processing as well as extracting features of the experimental fluid flow to compare to a mathematical model.• Packaged software for future experimentalists to use with ease.• Repaired and replaced old mechanical parts on experimental apparatus and created a catalogue on parts replacement. This consisted of designing and purchasing a 2000 lb actuator for the laboratory.• Currently finalizing a paper in conjunction with the above mathematical model to publish in the Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics. Show less • Collaborating with energy and cement partners to set targets to reduce the failure of cement operations in Western Canada thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25%.• Present weekly and biweekly presentations to the supervisor and co-workers for teaching and collaboration.• Developed a fluids model using Python to predict the flow of a multiphase fluid within a pipe.• Create yearly safety reviews for the lab supervisor and update SOP’s for lab equipment. Presented research to industry professionals, as well as at conferences in Banff, Calgary, Vancouver and Melbourne, Australia. Show less
