Within the overall framework of conservation and recovery planning for threatened bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus), the goal of this project was to understand and document limiting factors and population viability for threatened bull trout, and to relate these factors to habitat quality and land use.

Understanding how climate change will influence plant communities in arid and semiarid ecosystems is not only a challenge, but a concern for forecasting the potential effects of climate change. As a GIS tech for Dr. Adler (Principle Investigator), I helped analyze long-term data-sets to evaluate the historical role of variability in maintaining species diversity; a first step towards understanding the potential effects of climate change in plant communities.• Process/analyze 60 years of data mapped from the Jornada Basin LTER Research Site• Automating tasks using Python, R, and AML code/scripts Show less Responsibilities as lab manager included the collaboration, organization, and implementation of nine research projects between six graduate students at Utah State University.• Managed several projects focused around the June Sucker Recovery and Implementation Project (JSRIP) on Utah Lake. Collaboration between a multi-agency cooperative effort.• Maintained a fleet of five work vehicles, six boats, two research facilities, and laboratory and field equipment. Research facilities: Millville Aquatic Research Facility (Included six experimental ponds and a laboratory), Dr. Crowl’s wet lab• Our lab conducted semi-annual sampling of freshwater shrimp in the tributaries of the Mamayes River, as part of a continued 18 year effort, at the Long Term Ecological Research site (LTER) in the Luquillo Mountains of eastern Puerto Rico. Airborne Sensor Operator

Trained to operate state-of-the-art camera sensor equipment aboard multi-prop aircraft; I flew several photo mission on multiple projects throughout the United States. • Pre-flight mission planning using ArcGIS and Track Air, IMU and GPS post-processing using PosPac 5.1, conducted field data checks following data collection to ensure adequate coverage. • Digital aerial imagery acquisition• Ortho image processing: mosaicking acquired imagery into tiles, cleaning up imagery using Adobe Photoshop. • Installation of state-of-the-art Digital Mapping Cameras (DMC) into Aero Commanders and Navajo Chieftans.• Surveying (setting up GPS base stations and creating networks, surveying planes using a Leica total station)• Worked in remote locations throughout the United States and managed long-term projects. May 2009 - Feb 2016
      Water Resource Specialist

Worked with agencies, organizations and citizens to develop effective watershed management plans and sustained long-term local efforts aimed at restoring streams and wetlands in the Lower New River drainage. A central focus was the the Wolf Creek Watershed Based Plan (WCWBP). The WCWBP provides a framework to reduce pollutant loads within Wolf Creek. Iron, aluminum, and fecal coliform impairments were addressed by identifying four types of nonpoint sources: abandoned mine lands, streambank erosion, pasture/cropland, and onsite sewer systems.• Awarded over 1.1 million in grant funding during employment. • Successful completion of multiple restoration projects that improved water quality in the Wolf Creek watershed. • Outdoor Alliance

      Mar 2016 - Apr 2023
Land Use Planning & GIS Director

Outdoor Alliance mobilizes the power of outdoor enthusiasts to protect and conserve public lands and waters. As the Land Use Planning and GIS Director, I was responsible for designing, integrating, and managing a GIS within the Outdoor Alliance ecosystem and managing Outdoor Alliance's Forest Planning Program. In this position I supervised one direct report, multiple contractor relationships, and worked collaboratively with local, regional, and national governmental organizations. The position required managing multiple projects while maintaining a perspective on long-term goals, navigating diverse interests in a collaborative setting, and working with a variety of constituents to develop consensus on land management plans.Additionally, I provided GIS analyses, visualizations, and support for Outdoor Alliance's staff and ten member organizations. The "GIS Lab" has enabled Outdoor Alliance staff, the public, and policy makers to better evaluate, understand, and visualize complex geospatial relationships, resulting in better policy outcomes. Being data-informed has greatly improved national conservation policy and land management planning efforts. Show less

      Nov 2023 - now
      Federal Lands Environmental Coordinator

Within the Forest Resilience Division, the Federal Lands Section focuses on using state expertise, resources, and partnerships to increase work on federal land throughout Washington. This occurs primarily on National Forest System land through the use of DNR’s Good Neighbor Authority agreement with the federal government. The Federal Lands Section works directly with U.S. Forest Service personnel in Washington to implement a variety of projects that reduce wildfire risk to communities and habitats, and create greater forest and watershed resilience against drought, insects, disease, and wildfire. The Federal Lands Environmental Coordinator position works statewide across National Forest System Lands and Bureau of Land Management Lands to develop and execute short and long-term environmental planning projects under the National Environmental Policy Act. In this role I work alongside an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and a robust Operations Program to plan, coordinate, and prepare environmental analyses. The outputs contribute to final NEPA decisions and best management practice recommendations for large-scale landscape restoration projects. Show less
