The EPA National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA), is part of the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The mission of the center is to provide guidance about how pollutants may impact our health and the environment. This is an important piece in the risk assessment process between the ORD bench scientist and EPA's program and regional office managers who are making regulatory, enforcement, and remedial-action decisions. As the Associate Director for Health, my particular interests include the following: overseeing the management of health assessment activities; risk assessment and research related to the health impacts of exposure to environmental chemicals; modernizing risk assessment; risk assessment related to susceptible populations; mode of action of chemical carcinogenesis; specific interest in the toxicology and health risk assessment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and perchlorate.
