  As an Infantryman, I was trained in foot patrols, advanced rifle marksmanship, land navigation, radio operation, survival tactics, and combat tactics (i.e., room clearing, disarm a mine field, prisoner transports) . As a Reconnaissance Target Acquisition COIST team leader, I gathered important Intelligence (i.e., traits of terrorist groups, as well as presumed places where attacks were probable) and conducted pattern analysis. I relayed the intelligence to the men on the ground, in order for them to have an understanding of the area of operations. The reports included analyzed patrol debriefs from past patrols, data from the Biometrics Automated Toolset (BAT) (i.e., a tool which stored identifying information that would give us an idea of the villager's identity), the history of all significant activities in the village, routes to different villages, the name of the village or what they called themselves, the attitudes of villagers towards coalition forces, possible hiding spots in the surrounding area, avenues of approach to and from the village by foot or vehicle, and obstacles both manmade and natural. Along with the previously mentioned intelligence, I gathered analytical, assessment, and mission summary data for the command group. I conducted local intelligence analysis, forecasted enemy actions, and prepared the threat situation template (SITEMP) to include the most likely course of action/most dangerous course of action. During my time with this unit I conducted a five month combat deployment in Khowst, Afghanistan. Show less As an Infantryman, it was my duty to perform as a member of a fire team during drills and combat; aid in the mobilization of vehicles, troops, and weaponry; assist in reconnaissance missions; process prisoners of war and captured documents; and use, maintain, and store combat weapons. During combat deployments I was assigned an offensive, defensive, and retrograded duty during operations. I would receive issued orders and coordinate with support elements, and maintain operational security. I would also prepare, operate, and maintain secure communications equipment as well as ensure collection and proper reporting of intelligence data to the unit.   I performed such duties as required in the servicing of oil and gas wells along with the maintenance and repair of service units and tools. Essential functions of the job include operating- under normal conditions- the winch unit for running in and out of the hole; "zeros" tools and monitors tension meter, cable speed, depth and spooling of cable; understand depth control and weight indicator systems; and use all winch cable safety controls. I also prepare the well for service operations, align logging unit, install sheave wheel, thread cable, and connect multiple tools as required. I was required to learn to select, load and unload required tools and corresponding surface instrumentation for the job, assist the Engineer in maintenance checks of tools and equipment in the cell, conduct inspection maintaining and repairing primary tools, service units, and associated equipment according to the RITE program.   I was responsible for South Anchorage and the businesses in that area. I conducted roving patrols of their perimeters and sometimes walked the inside of the buildings if the threat warranted it. I was also in charge of security for the midnight shift at the Aspen Hotel in Anchorage.
