      I studied a four year Bachelor Degree with honours. This degree focused mainly on Business Enterprise and Education studies. In addition, I selected my Subsidiary subject as Computer Science as Information Technology pays a large part within the fast-paced business world. Within my final year I focused my Dissertation on the Further Education Sector as this always has , and will remain my passion in relation to an educational working environment. An integral part of this role entailed managing a workforce in order to complete projects in a set timescale. In addition, this role involved managing my own accounts and processing Sage payroll payments to other members of staff to ensure the efficient running of the business. Show less

      As a trainee teacher in first year at Stranmillis University College I gained 6 weeks valuable experience teaching a variety of subjects to a spectrum of age groups within a Secondary School capacity. The subjects I delivered included; Yr8 and Yr10 ICT, Yr9 LLW and Yr11 & Yr12 Occupational Studies - Retail. I found this placement to be extremely valuable as I gained experience regarding; different specifications and theory, extra-curricular activities, form class registration, planning, and classroom management. In addition to the above I also attended form class assemblies and departmental meetings, giving valuable feedback regarding resources and departmental planning matters. Show less

      As a trainee teacher in second year I gained a further 6 weeks experience teaching a variety of subjects within a Grammar School capacity. The subjects delivered included; GCSE and A-Level Business Studies, LLW and Year 8,9 and 10 ICT. This placement was of the utmost importance to my training as it enabled me to cater for more able pupils, developing various techniques to scaffold and stretch potential for each individual. Campbell College caters for all abilities and this further enabled me to develop key skills such as focused differentiation within my lessons. In addition, volunteering to take a form class was extremely beneficial, enabling me to engage further within the school as a team member and build suitable rapports with various age groups given the House System in operation.       As a third year student from Stranmillis University I was given the opportunity to engage with different subjects while on School-Based Work at Northern Regional College. I delivered a range of subjects at Level 2 and Level 3 which were mainly vocational in nature. The main subjects that I covered included Edexel Business Administration, Planning and Business Event, Occupational Studies and elements of ICT although most subjects were mainly Business Studies orientated. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience which taught me a variety of techniques which need to be adapted when teaching in the Further Education including; negotiation skills and motivating pupils who could not be catered for within mainstream provision. I found this placement to be extremely enlightening and enjoyable as my teaching style quickly adapted to meet the needs of more mature students who could not be catered for effectively within mainstream provision.       As a fourth year trainee teacher I completed my School-Based Work in an Educational Guidance Centre (EOTAS) which offered a valuable insight into a different sector within teaching in comparison to Secondary, Grammar or Further Education College. My role consisted of dealing with school refusers and Social Emotional Behavioural difficulties (SEBD) PUPILS. I engaged with pupils on a one-to-one basis and through small groups while teaching, and through various mentoring roles. The role encompassed; Behavioural Support, Education Services, Personal Development, Challenging Behaviour and Mentoring Services. The subjects I delivered included foundation stage English, Science, Maths and Prince's Trust XL Programme (Interpersonal Skills and Self-Management). I have found that many of my skills are transferable, ensuring pupils remain motivated and engaged during lessons and mentoring sessions with the emphasis on them returning to mainstream education wherever appropriate. This placement has highlighted how I prefer to work alongside challenging pupils, a role I first gained valuable experience on while on Alternative Placement in January 2016 within Prince's Trust at Northern Regional College (Newtownabbey).       In my fourth year of lecturing at Northern Regional College and was the Lead Mentor and Course Coordinator for College Connect (a cross-college programme) aimed at reducing the number of NEETs in Northern Ireland through a well-supported approach focusing on Vocational Skills qualifications, Essential Skills and work placements.In addition I delivered various Special Educational Needs classes which entail OCN and City and Guilds Level 1 qualifications. Whilst most of these classes are in a college setting, I also have experience working with SEN within a community dynamic. I have participated in various workshops and held classes within the surrounding Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus and Antrim area. Show less
