  THE DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMYIt all started late on a cold but sunny day in February 2002. I had driven to the brand new $40 million dollar Cardiac Care unit of Nova hospital to prepare for my bypass operation the next day at the hands of a world class cardiac surgeon. I was taken to my room where I had a very light dinner and although I was not particularly anxious about the operation I was give a shot to help me sleep. The next morning at daybreak I was woken by a small army of doctors and nurses who had come to prepare me for surgery. The anesthesiologist came by to explain what was going to happen. He gave me another shot to relax me and the last thing I remember was being wheeled out of my room and to the elevator. While waiting for the elevator I looked out the window at the sunny day and wondered if I was going to be driving home in the snow that was forecasted for the week’s end. Little did I know then that I wasn’t going to be driving anywhere and that it was going to be my brother who would be driving me home, and not in a snow storm but on a warm sunny day in May.
