    • Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems

      Oct 2017 - now

I look back on five years of experience as a press officer and science or research communication expert and another 15 years experience as a Journalist, working for TV broadcasting companies, radio stations, newspapers, news agencies, and online platforms. Currently, I am responsible for the MPI for Intelligent Systems’ media relations, one of the world’s leading research institutions in the field of AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Robotics. I manage the entire spectrum from writing up a press release to liaising with broadcasting companies or Influencers on how best to present our research in a fun and easy to understand way. I successfully translate scientific language into no-geek-speak phrasing any layperson can understand. I want to get a reader’s, listener’s or viewer’s attention by speaking a language through which science and society see eye to eye. I do so successfully, as our various research projects get featured on some of the world's most renowned tech platforms, science blogs, in newspapers, science TV shows, radio programs, and podcasts. Journalists, editors and freelancers experience me as a knowledgeable press officer who knows the science, as I approach each publication like a journalist: I conduct interviews with the involved scientists, I collect background information, I question different sources and work closely together with the researchers, editing the best possible wording and presentation of their work. Together we create a press release entirely in-house. When a press package is ready for release, I support the journalist every step of the way, helping to create a story that can fly. I look after the scientists when they come into contact with the press. I also organize events such as lectures, visitor groups, open days, or exhibitions. I am the editorial support of our website and I produce videos showcasing our research. The content creation and community management of all our social media channels is also my responsibility. Show less Cyber Valley is a research network that was established at the end of 2016. Together, the partners strengthen research activities, creating an ecosystem for start-ups and technology transfer and increasing the visibility of Baden-Württemberg as a global hotspot for AI research and development. As core elements of Cyber Valley, new research groups have been established at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, as well as at the University of Stuttgart and the University of Tübingen. The Cyber Valley Partners and the foundations finance these groups. In addition to the three existing Cyber Valley professorships, additional chairs will be established at the universities in the coming years. Another focus of the consortium is the promotion of young researchers with an internationally renowned, interdisciplinary doctoral program: the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems. The IMPRS-IS is a key element of the Cyber Valley research cooperation, offering the world's most promising young researchers in the field of artificial intelligence a first-class education. www.cyber-valley.de Show less
