K-12 school system supporting 12000+ students along with faculty and administration staff in 20 physical locations. Leased 1gb fiber connections from local cable company back to their headend, then bundled into a 10gb fiber trunk back to our datacenter. Migrated 30-node legacy physical Netware 6.5 sp8 and Windows Server 2003 HP c7000 blade environment to a completely virtual SLES 11 SP2/OES11 SP1/Windows server environment atop Dell M1000 Chassis blades running VMWare 5.1 hypervisors with vCenter Enterprise Edition taking care of the management, including dvSwitch configuration and use of Host Profiles and PXE to enable stateless hypervisor config with no requirement for local storage and simplicity of replacing a single shared image for updates. Replaced aging single Procurve 5308xl core switch with redundant Comware 5900 Switches in an IRF configuration and enabled STP to eliminate recurring network loops and moved routing functionality from the core out to the distribution layer in the individual sites using Procurve 5408 MDF switches in layer 3 mode.
