I am Head of Education at the National Centre for Computer Animation, responsible for quality and delivery of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Computer Animation programmes. I teach programming, parallel programming and real-time rendering. I currently undertake research into the dynamics of bipedal locomotion and fluid dynamics, and supervise 5 PhD or EngD students. I am full time research and lecturing staff at the National Center for Computer Animation (NCCA). I am a unit leader for the new BSc SDAGE course offered at the Media School. Actively engaged in research into character modeling and animation. The Bystander Project is a collaborative project between 4 universities to determine the factors affecting a bystander's likelihood of intervening in a violent emergency. This phenomenon will be evaluated objectively by simulating a violent scenario in an immersive virtual environment. Richard leads the Bournemouth University research team responsible for modeling and animation capture of interacting, violent and expressive virtual characters.
