    • Various Fishing Vessels and Cruising Boats

      Jan 1967 - Oct 2021
      Skipper, Assistant Skipper and Deckhand

I first started fishing in boats with my father, John Kennedy, not long after I could walk. By the age of 10 I was working in the school holidays on Cray Boats out of Pondalowie Bay. The first one was a Timber Boat called "Rainbird". I then worked on many other Boats, including the "Venture", and "Pelorus". At 17 years of age, I spent 22 days at sea, on the South side of Kangaroo Island, as the only Deckhand on "Pelorus". It was just the Skipper, Stan Iwaszczuk, and me. I pulled 65 Cray Pots every day, and we averaged 100 Crays a day. That was certainly a life changing experience! Since then, I have travelled 1,000's of Nautical miles at sea, on board many different vessels, in many positions, often as Assistant Skipper, and, Skipper. The largest vessel that I have ever been in control of was 83 feet long, and I did one 4 hour shift from midnight until 4am. Again, another life changing experience. I live to be on the water, and, just maybe, it might have something to do with me being a Pisces? Anyway, I look forward to seeing you out there soon. Show less

    • Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia Pty Ltd

      Jan 1974 - Jun 2004
      State Manager

I started as a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice 14th January 1974, and then progressed through many positions, including; Workshop Mechanic, Field Service Mechanic, Workshop Supervisor, Acting Workshop Foreman, Service Representative, Sales Engineer, 10 years as Sales Manager, and then 10 years as State Manager of South Australia, Responsible for Sales, Service, Parts and Administration, for all New and Used Equipment. In that time, our team grew to 65 employees, and enjoyed the success of being the Market Leader for many years. This result, for which I am eternally grateful, was only possible due to the tireless efforts that each and every one of our team continally strove towards. Show less

    • District Council of Mallala, now, Adelaide Plains Council

      Oct 2003 - Sept 2010
Member of Council and then Mayor

I was first elected as a Councillor in the Two Wells Ward in 2003, unopposed, and was then re-elected at the next elections in 2006. In 2007, I was voted in by a majority of the elected members, as the Chairman of The District Council of Mallala. During this term, the Deputy Chairman successfully tabled a motion to change the title from "Chairman", to "Mayor", so I then became the inaugural Mayor of The District Council of Mallala. I served in this position for 2 years, until I stepped down due to very heavy work commitments. My duties were the all encompassing Mayoral Duties and Responsibilities. During this time I made many friends and contacts that, to this day, have helped me in many ways to grow my career, that are still continually helping me in areas that I had never imagined possible. Considering that I had never intended to stand for this position, but had been coerced into it, I am forever grateful for those who convinced me to, "Give it a go". Show less
