Following a placement in the automotive industry, I returned on the Mechanical Engineering stream and developed a deeper understanding of diverse topics including Mechanical Vibration & Noise, Heat Transfer and Energy & The Environment. I then elected to focus on Automotive Engineering modules in my final year, completing courses in Internal Combustion Engine Technology, Turbocharging & Engine Boosting, and Vehicle Dynamics. This academic study was further supported by two major engineering projects: the Group Business & Design Project, and my Final Year Project, which investigated the aerodynamic characteristics of HGVs and their performance in autonomous platoons.Overall Average: 80.24% Show less

      Aerodynamics Engineer (Industrial Placement)

My placement at NTCE was spent in the Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics section. As a team, our responsibilities were the development of new vehicles for European and global markets and ongoing support activities for released European models. Responsibilities:- Wind Tunnel Testing: Tested vehicles for aerodynamic development and homologation (providing engineering advice and styling feedback as necessary). Demonstrated a flexible attitude to travel to support over 150 hours of aerodynamic testing in Versailles.- Model Build: Supported ‘hands-on’ model build for full-scale clay models. Communicated effectively and concisely with external partners to ensure successful procurement against tight deadlines.- CFD: Used simulation to screen new concepts and support wind tunnel activities, demonstrating creativity and attention to detail. Requested and completed training with an external CFD supplier to improve my knowledge of CFD techniques.- Part Approval and Testing: Supported crucial ‘cost-down’ engineering studies and new counter-measure proposals. Managed and conducted testing in collaboration with engineers from other departments.- Practical Research: Conducted practical tests for future aerodynamic innovation and liaised with external partners. Acted as a primary contact for a Nissan-sponsored PhD project. Show less

Class 2 Aerodynamics & Cooling Team Lead

As Class 2 A&C Team Lead, I managed development of TBRe20's aerodynamics package and took specific design responsibility for the front wing. This included supporting the Design and Business events of the FSUK Class 2 competition, where the team secured 5th place (2nd UK team). In addition to my Class 2 responsibilities, I also contributed to the design of the Class 1 vehicle and attended FSUK as a driver. Particular Class 1 tasks included the design of components for both the chassis and driver environment. Show less
