My home base was the AcostaRua center located on the westside of Jacksonville which is a 16-bed inpatient unit. Terminal patients are sent here when they are in an acute health crisis or actively dying.       For seven years, UF Health of Jacksonville provided me with different opportunities to grow in my nursing profession. In 2014, I started on a Med-surge floor telemetry unit and after one year, I transitioned to a cardiac progressive unit. I did progressive care for one year in the coronary care unit (CCU) and within the same unit, I joined the intensive care fellowship. I specialized as a cardiac intensive care nurse for approximately five years. This unit is based on team building to care for patients with different cardiac diseases, or that undergo different cardiac procedures.Tasks included:• Assessments to evaluate the mental and physical status of all assigned patients. • Implementing, evaluating, and documenting all patient care interventions and responses. • Assessing patient/family learning needs, as well as, providing and documenting educational interventions. • Performing a variety of nursing skills including tracheostomy care, PICC/Central line care, foley catheter insertion, wound care, colostomy care, and administration of IV, IM, PO, SC, G-tube, and PR medications, TPN, tube feeding, and blood products.• Maintenance and start of a variety of drips, including moderate sedation, pressors, anticoagulants, insulin, paralytics, etc.• Recuperating patients after procedures such as catheterizations, pacemaker placement, and vascular procedures.• Assisting physicians with bedside procedures such as cardioversions, and TEEs by administering moderate sedation and recuperating patient post-procedure. • Care of intubated patients, Balloon pump, Impella, CRRT, Swan Ganz catheter, Arterial lines, Alsius, EV1000, and TVP.       I had the honor to take a travel assignment to El Paso, Texas to help alleviate ICU nurse shortage disparities due to the COVID-19 pandemic at The Hospital of Providence- East Campus. The assigned hospital had a mixed ICU unit with medical, surgical, and cardiac patients.
