      Biodiesel Project Assistant, Building Sustainability Officer

      As a member of the Engineers for a Sustainability World - UBC Chapter (formerly Chemical and Biological Engineering Sustainability Club), I assisted the biodiesel project, where campus waste-oil is reacted to produce biodiesel. I assisted in training new additions to the team and ran lab sessions throughout the year. In my roe as building sustainability officer, I coordinated the departmental E-waste collection and collaborated with the department on the composting and recycling program.

      Selected, for two consecutive years, as one of the 12 undergraduate team members to take part in the iGEM (international Genetically Engineered Machine) world championships. Achieved Gold Medal Standing, awarded top modelling prize at the North American Jamboree and competed at World Championships at MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts. This experience encompassed a 4-month UBC work-learn term as well.

      Conducted a summer internships designing and carrying out experiments involving the production of Biodiesel from waste vegetable oil, production of soap from the byproduct Glycerol and the optimization of the processes involved. I continued on to complete a Directed Studies Course under the supervision of Dr. Naoko Ellis in biodiesel glycerol quantification using Gas Chromatography to allow for comparison of the produced Biodiesel to ASTM Standards.

      Appointed as the Vice-President for the Board of Directors, leading the Governance Committee and working alongside the President on all Board matters. Appointed as the Secretary Treasurer for the Board of Directors in the second year of my 3-year term. Elected by the membership, providing strategic direction for the organization, based on input from members and other stakeholders in the water sector. Oversee management of the organization by monitoring compliance with written policies that describe the organization’s ends (goals), governance, executive limitations and Board-CEO relationship. Working alongside fellow co-chair and BCWWA staff to lead the young professionals committee in achieving the strategic goals set out by the board. Collaborating with staff to develop education programs for professionals in the industry. Responsible for understanding the BCWWA and relationship with other organizations and associations within the water and waste industry. Communicate with and research other organizations and seek opportunities to collaborate on events.
