    • Lucas Diesel Systems

      Jan 1997 - Jan 2000
      Design Engineer

      • Designing tooling and gauge equipment used for the manufacturing of components to the highest tolerances.• Designing work handling equipment used for the transportation of a variety of components between processes. • Design for Manufacture and Assembly, (DFMA), reviews for tooling and equipment.• Drawing layouts to prove experimental concepts and trials.Key achievements:Work handling trays were comprised of many different components making it complex to assemble. The volume of trays required combined with the high cost of manufacture was resulting in escalating costs. I redesigned the tray to comprise of an injection moulded form, supported around a punched stainless steel frame. This resulted in significant saving due to the tray costing one third of the original price. Show less

      Project Engineer

      • Managing design reviews with supplies across Europe, progress checks and acceptances trials. • Implementation of machines and processes, giving training and setting procedures.• Valued member of process improvement teams focusing on QVC.• Using techniques such as Poka Yoke, SPC, and Six Sigma for Machine capability.• Over fifteen years’ experience troubleshooting process to successfully resolve any issues• Responsible for in-process drawings, and assisting with Failure Mode Effect Analysis • Working with high end technology manufacturing to sub-micron levels.Key achievements:The requirement for new plant equipment at various Delphi sites has required me to travel and liaise with both suppliers and the customers. Detailed technical specification, design / project reviews and acceptance trials ensured the machines were delivered fulfilling all requirements.Organisational objectives specified a drive to reduce tooling costs by 6% across the site. Increased tool life by optimising the dressing process and redesigning tooling to reduce manufacturing costs, helped to surpass this target to a 10% reduction. Show less

      Jan 2015 - Jun 2020
      Engineering Manager

      • Managing a team of 18 engineers and technicians with varying skill sets.• Plan and manage the engineering support for the Heavy Duty autonomous production unit.• Responsible for the overall equipment effectiveness, (OEE).• Setting and monitoring SMART targets, reviewing and assessing performance.• Presenting change or project proposals to stakeholders• Detailed planning and monitoring of projects to achieve required goals.• Extensive travel nationally and internationally across Europe.• Assisting with site capacity scheduling and uplift projects• Leading process improvement teams, focusing on quality, volume and cost.• Responsible for Health and Safety requirements• Duty manager responsible for the site when required.Key achievements:Awarded with the opportunity to undertake two qualifications, I successfully achieved both courses up to a CMI level 5 Diploma in management and leadership. This has given me a greater depth of knowledge and skills to aid me with leading teams to successful results.Demand and capacity required all bottle neck processes to achieve an OEE >85%. I tasked my team with implementing lost time monitors and held reviews to ensure focus was on the main causes of downtime. Using various root cause analyses techniques we exposed and eliminated the main reoccurring issues allowing us to achieve our target. For the past three years I’ve been heavily involved with the relocation of manufacturing from the Delphi site in Sudbury to sites in Iasi (Romania) and Stonehouse. This required my involvement within high level planning, undertaking tasks and responsibilities to ensure equipment and skills were transferred smoothly. This resulted with the project being delivered to schedule while still maintaining customer demand. Show less
