This year’s recipient, Ella Neruda, was nominated by her Field Liaison Nancy Wagner who supported Ella through her field placement at Nisonger Center. Ella has spent the academic year advocating for herself and for future students to access accommodations necessary to complete vital tasks in her field placement. Ella navigated this challenging process with professionalism and perseverance. She maintained open, effective communication with her support network and continued to excel in her fieldwork, despite delays in receiving full accommodation approval. Her commitment to disability advocacy—especially in the face of slow systems change—speaks volumes about her character and future in the field of social work. Ella has shown that meaningful advocacy requires steadfast commitment, and even as she approaches the end of her final BSSW practicum semester, she remains focused on systemic improvement. She in an outstanding example of the values at the heart of social work, and I am honored to present her with this recognition." Show less
