  Gregory University Uturu is one of the fastest-growing universities in Eastern Nigeria and, indeed, in Nigeria. I taught several undergraduate courses in civil engineering, including Soil Mechanics, Engineering Surveying and Photogrammetry, Elements of Architecture, Civil Engineering Drawing, Foundation Engineering, and Highway and Transportation Engineering. I also served as a member of the accreditation committee, the program leader for the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (for Civil Engineering students), examination officer for the civil engineering department. I have supervised several undergraduate dissertations and researched and authored articles in international peer-reviewed journals.My attitude to my job and student engagement helped me achieve a 40% reduction in the failure rate of my students; I built confidence in them and increased their interest in the programme.   Senior Civil Engineer

  Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission is saddled with constructing public infrastructure in various Abia State, Nigeria communities. This is achieved using proceeds from the sale of crude oil obtained from crude oil-producing communities of Abia State. Effectively, the role of civil engineering is to plan, design, construct and maintain public infrastructure like roads, schools, town halls, cottage hospitals, etc.I currently serve as the head of the civil engineering unit; hence, I supervise all the civil engineering projects commissioned by the organization. While leading the team, we have delivered the construction of over 15km of flexible pavement, rehabilitation of over 40km of flexible pavement, desilting of drains and reconstruction of over 50km of failed lined drains, repair of 3 cottage hospitals, rehabilitation and remodelling of 13 primary school blocks, construction of 11 community halls.I have recorded lots of achievements in this role. I developed a project scheduling template that reduced the number of poorly funded and abandoned projects and increased the number of completed projects by 40% within a year. I negotiated with contractors and suppliers for prompt delivery and maintenance of discussed standards in exchange for continued patronage; this ensured almost 100% compliance with project deadlines. I developed a template for promptly issuing job completion certificates to contractors; this ensured immediate payment of contractors' claims, eliminating stalling of projects. I managed the goals and objectives of over 30 road construction projects and delegated various tasks to the younger civil engineers to improve their skills and build a more dependable workforce. I introduced quarterly stakeholder engagement to assess the needs of the benefiting communities and ensure the satisfaction of both benefiting communities and contractors. Show less

  I worked on a "United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility" project funded by the United Kingdom Department for International Development. The project was aimed at improving infrastructure in Nigeria. My team carried out visual condition surveys on selected routes in southern Nigeria. Failure patterns on the roads were noted, and suggestions were made for their rehabilitation. The data captured was analysed and used for the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing proposal, tagged Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI), to concession some federal roads.Being the team lead, I implemented visual condition survey data collection using two software - RoadLab Pro and COSMOS. This eliminated the old method of taking notes using pen and paper, which took longer; the team completed daily set targets at 3:00 PM, before other groups. I equally introduced a daily 7:00 AM group call to present briefs about challenges of the previous day, an opportunity for the team to think out ways to surmount daily challenges. This ensured that the team submitted the project's deliverables within set deadlines. Lastly, I adopted data analysis tools to analyse the data collected to ensure easy and quick understanding by the client. Show less
