In this role I helped to setup new staff and student devices at the end of each year and performed checks on existing assets and infrastructure. These tasks included: - Diagnosing wireless internet issues around the campus - Unboxing and setting up new laptops - Providing technical support for staff and students - One on one training with elderly staff

I am currently completing the final year of my scholarship in the Strategic Asset Management team. My newest role has greatly helped me understand the more intricate details of the business and shown me how different departments interact. This became quite clear when I began looking at the sewer rehabilitation project I was working on during my first placement from a new perspective. Additionally, my current responsibilities include: - Traveling to each Water Pump Station in an effort to fill in any blanks in the our asset database (Maximo). - Collecting Sewer Pump Station data for a project that aims to use machine learning to better optimise the maintenance and service schedule for the pump stations. - Another major task I have been working on is the Water Main Risk Assessments. These involve looking at a selection of pipes and judging them on a set of criteria to see which are the most likely to fail next and what can be done proactively to minimise or eliminate any damages. Show less During the second year of my scholarship, I worked with the Technology Services department on a range of projects including: - Helping complete the annual Area Bay Station Inspections. Each year some staff would travel to each radio tower and ensure everything is working correctly and that nothing needs further attention. - Another responsibility I was given involved unboxing and setting up hundreds of 4Ghz modems that were distributed to each site as a backup in case the radio network ever has any issues that could prevent control or remote access to any important devices or facilities. - Lastly, I updated thousands of electrical drawings using a range of automated techniques that ensured each drawing fit the current company standards. However, when I wasn't working on one of the above projects I was given access to a range of spare RTUs, expansion cards and a small touch screen display. Playing with these devices gave me a much deeper understanding of Industrial micro controllers, ladder logic and the communication protocols between many systems. Show less During the first year of my scholarship with Barwon Water I was in the Enterprise Project Delivery (EPD) department. A major part of my time was working on a multi-million dollar sewer pipe rehabilitation and relining project. My roles in this project included: - The collection of data from contractors and subsequent storage on the company servers - Manual review of contractor data and footage to ensure the pipes had been relined correctly and to a satisfactory level. - Creation of Excel sheets and macros to automate data collection and reviews After working on the project for a few months Barwon Water collaborated with the Intelligent Water Network (IWN) and Vapar on the use on machine learning models that are able to automatically review sewer CCTV footage and flag timestamps for any defects. I was a major part of the collaboration as I manually reviewed a wide selection of footage before using Vapar's services to automatically review the same footage in a fraction of the time. I then compared the results of each method and wrote a report for the IWN detailing my findings and general stance on the technology at the current point in time.Additionally, after sitting in on a number of meetings I was given a small project to manage which involved having a large penstock repaired and subsequently installed in the Blackrock Waste Water Treatment Plant. Unfortunately, my placement concluded before the project did. Show less
