  Bella Beads was a retail store featuring Czech glass, Austrian crystal and semi-precious stones, along with the hardware, tools and connectors for making jewelry.This was perhaps the most intense and rewarding time of my life. We needed to develop a business plan, find a space, build the store, purchase inventory, hire staff, create signage and advertising and do all of the accounting functions required.I learned a great deal about business in general and how to manage a variety of personality styles in my employees. It also was educational in learning how to work with a partner.In addition to the brick and mortar store, we had an Internet presence, which presented a whole new set of challenges. We had to create a website, take photographs, write copy and develop an ordering and shipping system. All in all, it was an amazing learning experience. Show less

  As a Sourcing Project Manager I was responsible for a wide variety of projects in the Operations and Engineering Services organization, working with many different people in various areas of the business. I managed projects including business process improvement, moving complex manufactured commodities from one supplier to another and reducing cost with current suppliers.For example, in one project, I managed all aspects of moving manufacturing of engineered parts from one supplier to another, including drawings and specifications, pricing, quality and production lead time.I also worked on projects to find ways to reduce the cost of manufactured products. This included sourcing electronic components at a lower cost, looking for replacement components that still met the requirements, and negotiating with our suppliers. Show less As a Team Lead, I was responsible for the development and performance of four buyers in Operations and Engineering Services. This included delivering training on new tools and processes and improving or maintaining ongoing metrics.I also worked with the other team leads, as well as analysts and management to develop a new set of buyer metrics and a tool to track and analyze those metrics. I was chosen to be the subject matter expert on this new tracking tool.I enjoyed planning and executing a successful team building event for all of the North American buyers in the Strategic Sourcing Organization. This included a tour of the Harley-Davidson Museum, dinner, games and activities. Show less I enjoyed the challenge of the buyer position. It began with learning Rockwell's proprietary purchasing software, and shortly thereafter the company began it's migration to SAP. I learned SAP while maintaining a high level of support for my internal customers.The ongoing challenges included balancing the conflicting goals of my customers, both internal and external. I had to maintain enough product on hand to fill orders, while minimizing inventory, reducing lead time and reducing cost, yet maintaining quality. Show less
