    • Washburn Review

      Aug 2014 - Dec 2017

From August 2017 to December 2017 while interning at KTWU11 and launching Washburn Radio, I served as the Media Technician for the Review. I carried out equipment development and innovation for the Online, Multimedia and Special Projects Departments as well as training new multimedia journalists.Additionally, I continued writing investigative articles and also shot photo galleries. From April 2017 to August 2017, I served as interim Editor in Chief of the Washburn Review. I handled assigning stories, laying out the newspaper design and final edits before publication, day-to-day employee training and planning the general direction of the Review's coverage. I was the final pair of eyes editing all of our layouts before the publications were sent to the printing press. During this time I also occasionally handled investigative reports. From January 2016 to April 2017, I served as Multimedia Editor for the Review and oversaw all multimedia projects. These includded videos, podcasts and live events such as the 2016 and 2017 WSGA Presidential and VP Debates, where I served both times as moderator and producer of the recorded playback version. During my time in this role we successfully began publishing podcasts to iTunes and developed a system for livestreaming. Starting out at the Review, I wrote stories of varying subject matter, usually involving an interview. I also worked office hours answering the phone and taking messages, as well as copyediting other journalists’ work. As a reporter, I specialized in writing investigative pieces focusing on crime, student government politics, and ethical and administrative policy issues at Washburn and in Topeka.

Throughout my senior year at Washburn University, I built a campus radio station from the ground up.My work for the radio station encompassed everything from programming, assembly of a content database, hardware and software to run broadcasts, scheduling and hosting meetings, and recruitment. I also built a website for listening online with a noncommercial income model, using a voluntary cryptocurrency miner built into Washburn Radio's site as a method for "tipping."Thanks to my efforts as Vice President from 2017 to 2018, Washburn Radio (KRWU) established a full recording and broadcasting studio and became a partner broadcaster for the United Nations' journalism bureau, UN News. I also created Spotify, Google Play and iTunes podcast syndication channels for Washburn Radio, which allowed playback of previously-aired talkshows created by the students.
