Coronavirus pandemic might’ve changed our… Show more As part of a dynamic and diverse team, i represented NTU, as one of six NTU MAE students selected, in the 17th d-CAMP 2021 and 9th i-CAPS which are two competitions comprising 19 teams and 90 participants over a period of May-October 2021, aimed to encourage smart engineering design for Asian Communities.Our aim was to find a solution on the topic “Life in the New Normal''. We quickly agreed to focus on the issue of health and wellness. Coronavirus pandemic might’ve changed our lifestyles but it severely pressured our healthcare systems at the peak of the infection rates. Prevention of infection transmission became very important. At the closing of the d-CAMP 2021, we presented our innovative solution, ProMask, which is a light and compact mobile mask sterilisation case fitted with far-UVC LED and wireless charging functionality. It is meant for the members of the community who don't wash their mask regularly that causes severe skin or respiratory problems and risk contamination on contact with surfaces.The Korean team focused on the software side of development and Singapore team focused on ideating the desired product design attributes i.e. compact, portable and sleek design that’ll be the unique selling point (USP) of our innovation compared to the bulky design of competitors on the market. We made significant changes to the designs after each rapid prototyping session, I spent numerous hours designing and then printing the models, trying to find the best look and use for the product whereas Bowen checked all the electrical hardware connections and together, we managed to fit the wireless charging module, touch sensor, six UV LED’s, breadboard, Arduino mega, sanitisation mode LED and a LCD display with all wiring, seamlessly into the ProMask case, ready for use. Hence, iCAPS helped me tremendously to learn about smart design and fabricating prototypes, which is a valuable experience i’ll cherish for the rest of my professional career. Show less
