Built a prototype for a Cold Thermal Energy Storage (CTES) refrigeration device. Selected an innocuous coolant that was optimal for minimal storage needs and cost and maximal cooling rate. Designed coolant storage tank to maximize cooling rate. Successfully negotiated for reduced prices of coolant and storage tank materials.

      President

I was President of my Fraternity for Fall 2012.At the start of my term we had been in our house for just over a year and we had finally hit a comfortable number of brothers. Previously, we excelled in every goal that we created, but now that we were comfortable with what we had, apathy was rampant. The older founders that had started up the Fraternity had graduated and left a gaping hole in the amount of experience in the Fraternity. There were tensions between brothers that everyone knew about, but nobody talked about. Chapter meetings were tense, time-consuming and ineffective. Accountability for small tasks started hour-long arguments during meetings where multiple brothers stormed out. Brothers were spending less time at the house and many were moving out. Overall, many brothers were disillusioned with the Fraternity and mentally checked out to focus on school instead. On paper, the responsibilites of the President are to run weekly chapter meetings, have weekly conversations with the President of the Alumni and make sure that all brothers are abiding by the Fraternity rules. However, I knew the gravity of the problems piling up and I knew being a figurehead wasn't going to be enough. Rather than kicking the can down the road to the next President, I decided to tackle as many of the problems in the Fraternity as best as I could and lead by example to rekindle a passion in as many brothers as I could.During my time I built a very strong relationship with Hank Perritt, the President of the Alumni in my Fraternity. He was my source of council whom I spoke to multiple times a week to create the best course of action. I acted as a social worker between brothers to identify and dissolve conflicts. I put a time limit on chapter meetings and ran them more efficiently than ever before. But most importantly I showed that I cared about each brother as an individual and worked with everyone as best I could to show them what was great about our Fraternity again. Show less

      Sept 2012 - Nov 2013
      Province Alpha Leadership School Coordinator

Volunteered to plan and coordinate the annual Province Alpha Leadership School (PALS) for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity (SAE) for 2012 and 2013. I worked closely with the Province Archon, Andrew Danielson, to identify what needed to be done to successfully run PALS and communicated with him multiple times a week to update him on the progress of planning the event. Negotiated with MIT's Campus Activities Complex (CAC) to secure multiple rooms on campus to hold a two day conference for 200+ people with very little lead time. Obtained, set-up, took down and securely stored the necessary A/V equipment and was present as a technical assitant to make sure all presentation went smoothly. Show less

Was deeply involved in the design, prep and execution of each lab to ensure that the labs were challenging and that they effectively taught the weekly targeted leadership skills. Ran the 2015 admissions cycle, which garnered the largest number of applicants in program history. Managed a small team of students and worked closely with MIT professors and staff throughout the process to admit candidates for the 2015 program. Show less
