By the time I had finished up at University, I had became a Team Leader at my local Co-Op store I had been working at to support myself financially whilst studying. My time at the Co-Op taught me many important skills that continue to benefit me today, most notably - due to working in a customer facing role - I have developed the confidence and ability to talk and get on well with almost anyone I come across. Other skills include:- An introduction to team management. Whilst on shift as a Team Leader I was responsible for the management of Teams of around 3 people on the average shift, but could be up to a group of 5 on busier shifts. This means I was responsible for making sure all tasks required to be completed on each shift had the correct amount of staff/time to carry out the tasks at hand- Responsibility for store safety. When on shift as Team Leader, I had sole responsibility for the store and everyone in it. This means I had to make sure that all staff were able to perform their roles safely and that there was no risk to customers during this time. Other tasks included regular safety checks for fire safety as well as maintaining equipment as required.- Scheduling & Book keeping. As part of the management team for the store, I helped ensure that weekly & monthly tasks (promotion changeovers, stock checks etc) were completed in a timely manner. As well as this, I was involved in the cash counting at the end of each day as well as ensuring tills were balanced and the safe was emptied and balanced at the end of each week Show less
