    • Coyote Valley Police Department

      Feb 2023 - Sept 2023
      Chief of Police

Fostered and developed a robust relationship of trust between the police department and the local community, enhancing the department's legitimacy both locally and amongst external agencies.Nominated to serve as a witness at the U.S. Senate Committee Hearing on the vital issue of "Not Invisible" Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples at the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. I intend to utilize my allotted time to spotlight the dearth of legislative support for law enforcement on Tribal Land and the urgent need for recognition of tribal law enforcement as State Peace Officers, equivalent to other community police departments. My key recommendation will urge the Federal Government, particularly the Committee, to assist states in amending their laws to bolster the support for and recognition of tribal law enforcement.Earned a respected place on the National Board of Inter-Tribal Violence Against Indians, reflecting a commitment to community leadership and advocacy.Achieved recognition from the California State Congress and Assemblymembers for support of critical initiatives, including AB1314 Feather Alert and AB44 California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System for Tribal Communities. As a key panelist in the state-held Feather Alert Event, I not only identified pressing challenges faced by tribal communities – particularly the lack of legislative support for law enforcement and safety – but also proposed concrete solutions. Advocated to amend the California Penal Code Section 830 to recognize Tribal Law Enforcement as Peace Officers in the State of California, a critical step toward providing greater protection to tribal communities. In response to persistent challenges in recruiting qualified candidates for the police department, I proactively conducted comprehensive research and developed a strategic proposal to revitalize our recruitment processes.
