      I was posted to the Male Medical Ward for two weeks, the Surgical Ward for a week and the Pediatric Ward for a week. In the various wards, I was taught how to take the history of a patient, how to fill a laboratory request form, how to set a line, administer first aid, administer prescribed drugs and how to set and remove a nasogastric tube and a catheter. I was also taught approved techniques for the collection, labeling and preservation of specimens for laboratory tests.

      I am the Class President of the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry Class of 2024.As the Class President, I play a pivotal role in representing and advocating for the needs and interests of my fellow students. This position requires a strong commitment to collaboration, communication, and a genuine passion for enhancing the overall experience of classmates. A few of my roles and responsibilities include: 1. Class Representation: I act as the primary representative of my class, voicing the collective concerns, ideas, and suggestions to the school administration, faculty, and other relevant bodies.2. Leadership: I provide visionary leadership that inspires and motivates my peers to actively participate in class activities, initiatives, and events.3. Community Building: I help to cultivate a sense of unity and belonging among my classmates by organizing social gatherings, events, and activities that foster meaningful connections. An example of such event include the class welfare week were students took part in activities like rep your high school and twin tuesday.4. Communication: I maintain transparent and effective communication channels, ensuring that important information, updates, and announcements reach all members of the class in a timely manner.5. Advocacy: I serve as an advocate for your class, addressing academic, administrative, and logistical concerns to ensure an optimal learning experience for all students.6. Collaboration: Collaborate with other student organizations, committees, and student government bodies like the University’s Student Representative Council, College Health Student Association and the Medical Students’ Association to amplify the impact of my class initiatives and contribute to the overall student experience.7.       During the Covid-19 Pandemic, I worked with the emergency department of 37 Military Teaching Hospital by aiding in the insertion of IV lines, helping triage patients and assisting in patient care as the hospital was short staffed during the pandemic. I also worked with the hospital’s renal team where I assisted in the insertion of central lines for hemodialysis and management of patients who presented acutely with renal emergencies.

      I completed an anesthesiology rotation where under the guidance of experienced anesthesiologists, I actively participated in pre-operative assessments, patient monitoring, and perioperative care. I trained with the surgical team, gaining hands-on experience in anesthesia induction, airway management, and postoperative monitoring. This rotation deepened my understanding of anesthesiology and its crucial role in healthcare.
