  Engineer cadet

  This was a sponsored cadetship, which consisted of 3 years which included two placements at sea and 3 college phases. The college phases were sat at City of Glasgow college, the placements were on Zim Panama and Zim Shenzhen. Duties on these vessels included daily tank soundings, water tests, lubricating oil tests, assisting with overhauls and emergency maintenance as required, as well as general housekeeping.

  Engineer officer of the watch

  This is an Engineer's position on an ERRV ( Oil rig standby and rescue) where the vessel is on standby at the oil rigs in case of accidents. there are only three engineers on the vessel, two assistants and a chief. My duties involve engine room watch keeping and planned engine room maintenance as well as any life saving training that is required.

  This was a research vessel for the Scottish Fisheries. My duties included UMS checks, and carrying out jobs according to the ship's maintenance plan.This contract was accrued through Seamariner.

  4th engineer

  General 4th engineer's duties on board a RORO ferry. I was in charge of the water tests, the purifier overhauls, vibration analysis, as well as UMS duties every third night. I was in charge of the engineering safeties, which included testing the bilge alarms starting the lifeboat and rescue boat, and running the emergency generator every Sunday. I also assisted in overhauls and carried out other general maintenance tasks around the vessel as and when this was required

  Duties include looking after refrigeration system, ships air-conditioning, power and propulsion systems. Also carry out UMS and watchkeeping duties as well as managing and developing junior members of the Engineering department. I've also assisted in the training of the engine room cadets to a high standard . General watchkeeping duties on-board a vessel. Duties include overhauling different main engine and auxiliary plant, working on deck machinery and weapons maintenance. Also required to be part of the fire fighting team on-board the vessel and ensure all work is done to the highest standards and completed safely.
