Work U was a pioneering pilot program within CI+D, becoming the first program to successfully transition into a permanent part of the university. CI+D's distinct mission involves "graduating" programs that demonstrate success, transferring them to another college based on their quality, relevance, and financial stability. Following this decision by executive leadership, I was selected to facilitate the transition of the Work U Program to Boise State Career Services. Joining the Career Services team, I aimed to expand the influence and scope of the Work U Program.- Effectively grew the Work U internship program from a pilot with one employer and 7 students into a premier Boise State initiative that generates over 120 student opportunities a year with over 30 employer partners- Created and led mentor orientations and Work U showcases for 100+ business stakeholders each semester to train employer mentors in best practices of mentorship, establish expectations, and generate enthusiastic buy-in for the program- Facilitated training for business leaders from diverse industries on best practices of mentorship and created post-training assessments to ensure a quality experience for participants - Created a student recruitment strategy that increased student applications by 3X resulting in a record number of students for Work U internships by leveraging on-campus relationships, presentations, and marketing campaignsWork U is a unique internship program that gives students hands-on professional experience, clarity on their career goals, an opportunity to be mentored, focused classroom time, and a chance to build their resume and network – all while gaining three upper-division credits. Interfaith Sanctuary Project through IDEO U

During my time as an employee at Boise State, I enrolled in a human-centered design class where we were assigned to develop a design-thinking project benefiting a local employer or nonprofit. Our team collaborated with Interfaith Sanctuary, and our recommendations were successfully implemented by the organization. This experience was invaluable as it deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. It taught me that the heart behind addressing homelessness lies within the single story and the compassion to see ourselves within that story. This quote from Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries really summarizes it well. “Here is what we seek: a compassion that can stand in awe at what the poor have to carry rather than stand in judgment at how they carry it.”- Presented our findings and project to Interfaith Sanctuary Leadership, who adopted our project and raised over $40,000 to execute space redesign- Won collaboration of the year at Interfaith's gala and gave an acceptance speech on behalf of the team and all donors- Observed and conducted qualitative interviewing with guests, volunteers, and staff to gain insight into user experiences- Collaborated with team members to share insights and focus on a problem to solve - Prototyped and tested with user feedback to fine-tune our strategy to best serve all stakeholders Show less
