  This part time job involved a multitude of roles across the garden centre including stacking shelves, till operating, general site maintenance and manual lifting for customers. Due to it being a garden centre, the nature of the work changes throughout the year. For example, the Christmas period involved much more manual work when selling live trees, while quieter months in the summer was devoted to site maintenance and improvements. The skills I most applied were time management, communication, flexibility and punctuality. Show less

  Junior Under Officer

  The OTC includes a package of green training in the field which encompasses the learning of modules Alpha and Bravo of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst syllabus; adventure training which includes kayaking and mountain biking; socials which include the OTC's annual dinner where I have hosted guests such as the Oxford Vice-Chancellor and sports, where I have formed and ran the OTCs first Rowing Club. Since this year I have been awarded Sports Colours for my contribution as Captain for the Rowing Club as well as being promoted to Junior Under Officer where I shall be leading a section of officer cadets who will be learning their RMAS module A. Also, through the OTC I am currently part way through the Army Officer Selection Board which is a selection process that tests fitness, current affair awareness, team work, leadership and mental aptitude, among other things.   Trainee Initial Adviser

  This voluntary role involved completing training modules to advise clients on a wide variety of topics including housing, benefits, employment and debt. Clients were engaged either face to face over the phone to discuss their issue which was logged in a case file. Where appropriate, initial guidance was given to resolve the issue, or they were referred to specialist advisers within Citizen's Advice. Teamwork was critical in order to deliver the correct advice on topics that were often difficult and unsettling for the client to talk about. Show less
