Teaching Fellow, China Foreign Affairs University 外交学院

During a one-year leave of absence from Booz Allen, I participated in the Princeton-in-Asia program. Princeton-in-Asia sends recent graduates to Asia for teaching, non-profit, business, and media internships. During my post I lived and worked on the campus of China Foreign Affairs University (外交学院) Beijing, China. I taught 6 internationally focused topics classes of 4th year undergraduates and one class of 3rd year undergraduates. As the only university in the PRC run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), China Foreign Affairs University serves as a feeder for the MFA and other internationally focused careers. One of my most fulfilling experiences was informally advising students on career and graduate school plans. When my teaching schedule allowed, I also studied Mandarin. Show less

    • Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

      Oct 2013 - Jun 2014
      Intern: Operations & Development Team

In addition to teaching in Beijing, I volunteered as an intern at the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center (CTC). CTC is a think-tank sponsored by the Carnegie Endowment for Peace and Tsinghua University. Employing my consulting experience, I co-led an effort to overhaul the branch’s financial reporting and tracking system, allowing decision makers to track costs in real-time and present financial reports to the Chief Financial Officer in Washington, D.C. Additionally, I developed a branch fundraising strategy that helped decsionmakers allocate fundraising resources and staff. I adapted Booz Allen stakeholder relationship building techniques in order to grow the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center intern alumni program culminating in a networking event that included current and former interns. Tasked with helping manage the 25 person international intern program, I designed and coordinated intern performance assessments using a 360° assessment process. In addition, I analyzed the self assessments of the interns and formulated recommendations for changes to intern program. (80% of the interns across all four workstreams reported feeling motivated by their work at the Center.) I also designed an exit survey for interns; allowing the director of the intern program to plan future improvements. In preparation for the annual CTC retreat, I worked with my Chinese counterpart to develop team building activities that would be appropriate in the multi-cultural context. Show less
