I monitored their blood sugars constantly throughout the school day and calculated the amount of carbohydrate intake at lunchtime to ensure the correct insulin dose was administered. I also treated the pupils for both hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia and supported their learning throughout this time. To help run an after-school club based within a mainstream primary school. This involves helping to plan and set-up activities and prepare food for the children.

This involves working closely with the school’s speech and language therapist and OT to ensure therapies and interventions are implemented within the classroom alongside weekly therapy sessions.

      Within this role, I support other clinical research staff to conduct a variety of research trials and studies within the hospital setting. This often involves collecting data in a variety of ways including recording ECGs, processing blood samples in the laboratory, and inputting data in order for analysis to be undertaken. More recently I have been involved with a number of studies into COVID-19 commissioned by the World Health Organisation and other institutions throughout the UK. This role involved caring for patients on an acute medical ward. Patients were admitted onto the ward with a variety of different conditions across many area of medicine including respiratory, geriatric and endocrine. I learned a variety of new skills including taking clinical observations, detecting the deteriorating patient, and aspects of end of life care within a hospital setting.
