    Maintenance Execution Leader

  • Education

    • US Naval Nuclear Power School

      2003 - 2004
Officer Nuclear Power Course Nuclear Engineering and Operations 3.4 / 4.0

      • A 24-week course in science and technology, designed to provide theoretical background knowledge of nuclear power.• Consists of over 650 hours of instruction in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Reactor Dynamics, Core Characteristics, Reactor Plant Systems, Shielding, Radiological Fundamentals and Reactor Plant Operations.• Class 0402

    • West Virginia University

      1997 - 2001
      Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering 3.5 / 4.0

Activities and Societies: President of Pi Tau Sigma (International Mechanical Engineering Honor Society). Member of Golden Key International Honour Society. Member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

    • West Virginia University

      2001 - 2003
      Master’s Degree Mechanical Engineering 3.8 / 4.0

      • Coursework consisted of Advanced Mathematics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics and Multiphase Flow.• Research work involved design and optimization of a bio-waste conversion unit.

  • Experience

    • Naval Nuclear Laboratory (BMPC)

      Dec 2003 - Jun 2014

      • Provided daily technical support to the US Navy’s operating submarine fleet. Responsibilities included resolving operations and maintenance related problems for static mechanical and rotating machinery in the reactor plant.• Coordinated and developed an emergent technical solution and implementation schedule for long-term operation of a nuclear power plant in an abnormal configuration. This effort involved coordination of technical, budgetary and project schedule solutions involving more than 15 Business Units across 4 sites.• Authored 6 Chapters of the Safety Analysis Report (SAR) provided to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a new US Naval nuclear training platform. The SAR provides detailed design, operations, maintenance strategy and emergency response information to the NRC which forms the basis for the US Navy’s license to operate the facility. Show less • Provided technical consultation and oversight for reactor plant maintenance and operations during complex maintenance availabilities for 2 nuclear-powered submarines and 3 nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.• Independently represented BMPC across all levels of shipyard and Navy management while maintaining critical relationships with reactor plant design personnel, component procurement organizations and nuclear component vendors to provide prompt resolution of technical issues.• Coordinated emergent nuclear plant troubleshooting on submarines and aircraft carriers to ensure timely resolution of technical issues while maintaining project schedule and minimizing cost to the Navy. Show less • Responsible for performing complex modeling and analysis involving proprietary corrosion and margin to thermal limits predictions for a wide range of operational conditions over the life of a new US Naval reactor core design. Analysis results directly impacted hardware design, manufacturability, reactor safety, license to operate, approved operating parameters and maintenance lifecycle costs.• Lead a first of a kind effort to plan, coordinate and issue an initial thermal/hydraulic design basis for a new Naval reactor resulting in a 33% reduction in cost and schedule.• Performing technical work to a high level of quality while on schedule and under budget resulted in selection for multiple roles as lead engineer, such as corrosion and thermal analysis, Finite Element Analysis modeling and reactor core manufacturing development. • Principal Fluid Systems Engineer

        Jan 2013 - Jun 2014
      • Senior Field Engineer

        Jul 2010 - Dec 2012
      • Senior Thermal/Hydraulic Engineer

        Jun 2007 - Jun 2010
      • Nuclear Operations Supervisor/Instructor

        Dec 2003 - May 2007
    • Shell

      Jul 2014 - now

      • Provided onsite daily engineering support to Operations and Maintenance across a wide range of engineering disciplines including Production Engineering, Controls and Automation, Rotating Machinery, Static Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Facilities Engineering.• Onsite champion of the Root Cause Analysis process for undesired operations events and equipment failures.• Provided training, coaching, and mentoring to Equipment Owners on application, operation, and maintenance of equipment to provide reliability at the lowest possible cost.• Drove reduction in downtime by 50% year over year by collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, and Discipline Engineering to identify, prioritize and take action to mitigate threats to availability.• Core member of Zero Based Maintenance strategy team. Reduced maintenance hours by 30% on the Brutus and Ursa Tension Leg Platforms while increasing reliability through maintenance task prioritization and increased use of predictive technology.• Routinely filled in for the Maintenance Supervisor.• Lead human performance and equipment improvement efforts through facilitation of Root Cause Analysis. Formally trained as Causal Learning Facilitator. Show less
