Internship - May of 2013. Full-time - May 2014 I was offered a full-time position.I know the personal sting grief brings from a loved one who died whether it be family or friends. I used my personal and educational background to provide the best support I can when I am talking/listening to a survivor's story and struggles, or helping them locate therapy resources in their area. I am assisted the Director of Community Based Care at TAPS as we are looked for mental health professionals who would donate their time to support our bereaved military survivors. We created TAPS Care Groups which consists of a meeting once a month, for an hour and a half, that is co-facilitated by a TAPS Peer Mentor (PM) and a mental health professional. A PM is a military survivor who is at least 18 months out from their grief and has taken training to become a PM and they then take additional training to become a group facilitator. We are also built a network of mental health professionals who would provide pro bono serives to our surviving military survivors that relate to: grief & loss, trauma focused therapies, working w/children and families, substance abuse treatment (in/out patient), experience working with death by suicide, and the many other issues that can impact a person's life after the death of a loved one.
