      Grief is a unique and active process where we make choices. When we process and cope with loss through the motions of active grieving, we make ongoing choices of how to behave, react, feel, express, involve others and the time it takes to acknowledge the change that has occurred in our lives. For a job related loss, inherently trying to make meaning of the grief process, nurses fluctuate from “experiencing loss and grief” to “avoiding or suppressing loss and grief”. As nurses represent the largest proportion of the Australian healthcare workforce working in acute hospital settings, identifying and understanding how to recognise and manage their own grief care may present an opportunity for nurses to be more culturally appropriate, emotionally aware and potentially increase their capacity to provide better quality care when a patient has died in their direct care. My research will seek to explore this topic in-depth. Show less

      The Director of Academic Program has a key academic leadership role within the School and will provide strategic advice, planning and direction for the suite of courses that comprise the Undergraduate Nursing program. The Director of Academic Program works closely with the Dean and Deputy Dean of the School and the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) in managing the development and delivery of the curriculum for the course(s), assuring course and unit quality within the University’s Academic Standards and Assessment Framework, and ensuring compliance with University policies and legislation. The Director of Academic Program will be assisted by an Academic Course Advisor who will have responsibility for many of the student-related matters in the course (or suite of courses).• Ensure that Program design and delivery are consistent with University and School strategic objectives, Program objectives and learning outcomes, and with the University’s Academic Standards and Assessment Framework for Learning & Teaching, and the Research Framework.
