Arizona State University
Jan 2017 - Jun 2018• Successfully developed a novel cold-wall CVD process with run-to-run repeatability of graphene deposition on Copper films supported on Tungsten and Molybdenum substrates and carefully studied the effect of process parameters on graphene nucleation density• Used LabVIEW to implement instrument control for process automation to precisely monitor and control growth parameters in a cold wall CVD process• Provided experimental proof of the fundamental theoretical understanding of graphene growth mechanism on low-C solubility catalysts like Cu via a two-dimensional nucleation and growth mechanism. • Contributed to the burgeoning graphene CVD field by furthering the current understanding of graphene growth using catalytic CVD at ambient pressures using industrially preferred cold wall CVD. The findings relate the previous findings on graphene growth phenomena using hot wall CVD method to current cold wall CVD technique. • Investigated the never-before-studied effect of gas flow rate on graphene film morphology evolution. • Identified conditions to grow lateral heterostructures of graphene with h-BN.• Investigated graphene growth on molten and recrystallized Cu, sputter-deposited Cu, electrodeposited Cu and Cu and Au films deposited in-situ by PVD; explored different W and Mo substrate designs as suitable supports for Cu films • Various characterizations like FESEM, RBS, Raman Spectroscopy and AFM have been used in this project to characterize graphene films and Cu films on W• Aided in securing NSF research grant DMR-1409280• Laboratory responsibilities as an RA include maintenance, modifications and servicing of multi-chamber UHV- CVD system and process development for graphene growths on supported metal catalysts Show less
