  Junior Scientist

  Worked as a junior scientist at University of Minnesota under Dr. Jakub Tolar (now the Dean of the medical school) on using the DNA coding for Collagen-7 protein in adult derived Multipotent Adult Progenitor Cells to come up with treatments for Epidermolysis Bullosa. A lot of what I did there was cell culture of MAPC cell lines, but I also did a lot of western blots and PCR to examine whether treatments worked in mouse models. I also maintained the breeding colony of EB mice, which presented challenges in keeping the afflicted pups alive long enough to attempt treatment (EB is a very nasty disease). I also did some work building viruses for use as vectors in gene therapy, most of which involved luminescent markers to see if the vector was successfully getting into the cell.Western Blot. PCR.   Justin White founded Mad Science MMA at Fort Leavenworth, KS, in 2010 to train fighters, whether for competition, personal defense, or military service. Since that time, he has been trained by the U.S Army in Basic and Tactical Modern Army Combatives, as well as in the Close Combat System formerly used by the U.S. Marines. In 2012 he became one of the first civilians ever trained in the Army’s Special Operations Combatives Program.Under the Mad Science MMA banner, Instructor White has trained hundreds of soldiers from all branches of the Armed Forces as well as personnel from over 10 allied nations. He has served hundreds of volunteer hours teaching combatives to soldiers through the Modern Army Combatives Program at Fort Leavenworth, and instructed numerous seminars on Catch Wrestling, Striking, Leg-locks, Self-Defense and Grappling Skills for Concealed Carry. On the competition side, his fighters have earned a well-deserved reputation for skill, mental toughness and ruthless aggression in the cage, winning numerous regional bouts, including championship titles in the 145, 155, and 205 pound divisions.An NRA Pistol Instructor, Jujitsu Black Belt and Army spouse, White is currently in the process of relocating Mad Science MMA to San Diego.   Laboratory Technician

  Worked for University of Florida (2016-2019) in toxicology. We basically did confirmation studies - i.e. we would independently replicate someone else's study for them. That job was a GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) standard lab, and I really enjoyed working there. In the three years I was there, I got to work on about a dozen diseases. I did gDNA extractions, micro-chipped mice and rats, performed Elisa Assays and RNA extractions. It was very rewarding because of the wide range of diseases I got to help work on.
