      I started in the HR department on a learnership. I was then hired as an HR Clerk upon completion of my degree. Whilst working there, I was also assigned the role of PA to the Chairman. I gained a great deal of experience in the corporate world, dealing with directors, external business contacts and employees. I learnt the importance of discretion and confidentiality, as well as time management. My general duties were as follows;•Assisted the HR Director and Manager with various tasks.•Conducted the Wage payroll for approximately 150 hourly-paid employees.•Handled the leave control for all South African based employees.•Managed the induction and orientation procedures.•Conducted training with all SA staff of the new HR system.•Assisted with rolling out the Workplace Skills Plan, and ensured that targets were met.•Participated in the Safety Committee meetings.•Sourced, ordered and distributed the corporate clothing for all branches (SA, DRC, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe).•Was the primary point of contact in the HR department for the employees.•Managed the employee medical aid schemes and assisted employees with any questions, concerns and changes.•Handled the administration of the employee Provident funds.•Promoted staff wellness, and sourced healthy food options for staff. I gained significant knowledge regarding the general operation of the vessel. I learnt how to work with people from an array of nations, cultures and backgrounds.
