      Design and Process Engineering Co-op

During the first rotation of the co-op, I was introduced to the basics of plastic part design and the injection molding and induction welding processes. Some of my primary responsibilities consisted of producing sets of renderings for standard AptarGroup, Inc. products from the beauty and home division and the food and beverage division for the Bonded Aluminum to Plastic (BAP) team website and for marketing presentations. During the second rotation of the co-op I was required to develop rough models of complex dispensing systems for sales and marketing presentations that were capable of solving customer's current packaging issues. I had the opportunity to work in consumer research, visit foil suppliers, and complete sample requests. I was also responsible for writing work instructions for the induction welding equipment in the BAP lab, rapid prototyping complex dispensing system models, and assisting quality lab technicians with gage R&R’s and LWR’s. While working in the quality department, I had the opportunity to use and create programs on a vertical and horizontal lift gage, CMM, and Keyence.During third rotation of the co-op I acquired many of the responsibilities of the former BAP lab technician. My primary duties were to take sample and foil inventory, complete sample requests, and update work instructions for welding equipment. I also assisted the design engineer with daily tasks, which mostly consisted of product testing, data gathering, and data analysis. The test methods performed consisted of pack-vac, burst, opening performance, lift force, and path leak testing. I was also responsible for working with the quality technicians to implement a new SPC procedure on a high scrap rate injection molding line, where my duties primarily consisted of making a list of corrective actions, creating test method procedures for quality assistants to perform on finished parts coming off the line, and the updating the defective part nomenclature. Sustainability & Water Resource Management Study Abroad

Out of passion for the concept of sustainable practices, I joined the GREEN Program and travelled to Cusco, Peru for a two week study abroad trip on the topics of sustainability and water resource management. I attended lectures at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL) and hiked, explored, and surveyed ancient Inca canals and structures used for irrigation and transportation of water. I also worked with a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team to develop a theoretical waste flow stream for the Huatanay River. Show less

Maximization of Academic and Proffesional Success (MAPS) Coach

The primary goal of a MAPS transition coach is to introduce freshman engineering students to the general atmosphere of the William States Lee College of Engineering at UNC Charlotte by mentoring to them over the course of their first semester in college. MAPS coaches accomplish this task by covering a series of both academic and professional soft skill topics that prove to be useful throughout a student's career. The academic topics that MAPS coaches cover include time and workload management, study skills, effective textbook usage, exam preparation, and self-directed learning and research. The professional topics include schedule planning, diversity training, resume and cover letter building, networking, teamwork, leadership, and future planning. MAPS coaches are expected to be knowledgeable of most engineering related campus resources for students, the registration process, and the freshman introduction to engineering course (ENGR 1201).
