Apr 1987 - Aug 1989Aeronautical Engineer (Lieutenant)I acted as the design and airworthiness authority for the assigned aircraft type. I prepared repair instructions and technical orders to be used by the technicians to perform inspections, repairs or modifications. I made technical specification for procurement of components and services and made the technical evaluation of the offers. I also made a prototype installation of a new ice detection system on the coast guard helicopters, including testing and data sampling in Artic environment.

Jul 1991 - Apr 1998I was Project Manager for the RNoAF Transport Aircraft project (C-130J-30) which was the largest investment project based on commercial terms and conditions that had ever been undertaken by the Norwegian Air Force. As project manager I administered the legal, commercial, technical, operational and logistic resources in the project and lead the negotiations with Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems and others. The function also included status reporting to all levels in the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence as well as close cooperation with other nations having similar requirements, in particular the Royal Air Force (UK) and the Royal Australian Air force. Show less I advised the Inspector General about technical, quality and safety issues and acted as a liaison between the operational and technical environments. Another important task was to be responsible for the implementation of Total Quality Management principles in the Air force. Further, I was appointed to a special change project established by the Chief of the Air force to define a new centralized maintenance concept for the national F-16 fleet (fighter aircraft) to avoid redundancies of capabilities in order to achieve significant cost savings, while maintaining operational capacity iaw. Show less As Technical Manager I was responsible for all repair and maintenance activities for 20 fighter aircrafts (F-5) performed by more than 100 persons directly under my command. In addition to the normal operation from the home base, we deployed frequently to other locations. During these deployments I was in charge of establishing, in close cooperation with the host base, a capability to allow proper support for our operations. As a special task I initiated a safety awareness program which was favourable commented in a flight safety magazine. I also developed and initiated a structured training program for the personnel.
