This consisted of theory, practical and simulation based training alongside a comprehensive placement schedule in various areas of healthcare. I also undertook additional responsibilities outside of the classroom as a class representative and I was a committee member on the GCU Emergency Care Society, a student society that delivered CPD to student paramedics and other healthcare students. I was responsible for the society’s finances and have been involved in organising and facilitating simulation events such as ALS and scenario training days. Running and participating in peer led simulation enhanced my organisational and leadership skills, in addition to promoting the clinical and personal development of myself and my peers. Show less

As a 3RU paramedic I have received extra training aimed to improve the management of out of hospital cardiac arrests. I am able to use the LUCAS mechanical CPR device and bring additional leadership and management skills to the incident to take oversight if necessary and prioritise interventions during cardiac arrest and ROSC.I work shifts both on the PRU/3RU as required and on a double crewed ambulance in line with my current roster. This allows me to keep my skills and training in all aspects of my paramedic role current. Show less As a HCPC registered paramedic I am responsible for delivering high quality patient care in the pre-hospital environment. This involves robustly assessing, treating, transporting and referring on patients with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. I mainly work on double crewed ambulances but have undertaken additional duties as solo responder on the Paramedic Response Unit (PRU). While in this role I have enjoyed mentoring student paramedics and student ambulance technicians to aid their professional development and also improve my own leadership and mentoring skills. I am passionate about improving patient care and developing my own knowledge and skills. Whilst working in Aberdeen I have taken on the responsibility of being a representative for the Aberdeen & Grampian falls pathway. As part of this role I conduct monthly audits, participate in quality improvement and deliver training to colleagues. Show less As an NQP I completed a 12 month preceptorship period in which I successfully submitted and passed an extensive portfolio. During my preceptorship I spent the first 6 month period working, mostly, with other paramedic colleagues to assist in the consolidation of my paramedic practice. In the latter half of my NQP period I worked with all grades of staff, including student technicians. While I did have some limited restrictions on practice during this time it allowed me to refine and hone my paramedic practice prior to progression onto band 6 paramedic post. The portfolio consisted of reflections on a variety of emergency incidents, leadership and mentoring in addition to workshops and CPD events. I also completed a 4 week certificate in emergency response driving and a 1 week national induction at the beginning of my NQP period. Show less
